Roof Cleaning: What to expect
If you haven’t already, please visit Roof Cleaning: Purpose and Benefits to learn more about the importance of roof cleaning.
1. Estimates and scheduling
Our process begins as soon as you contact us either by calling, texting, or by requesting a free estimate online. Shortly after you contact us, we will reach out to schedule a visit to your home. This visit allows us to do a brief roof inspection and discuss any unique needs or questions you have. After the inspection and discussion, we’ll be able to provide a quote/estimate and schedule a service date for the cleaning. During this time, we’ll capture “before” pictures and will provide you “after” pictures when the job is complete.
2. Before the service date
Before the service date, we recommend clearing the exterior of your property of any items (lawn furniture, decoration, ornaments, plants, pots, etc…). Though we are cautious of our surroundings, this is to protect your belongings and ensure a safe working environment. Lastly, we ask you secure any pets indoors and away from the areas being serviced. Although we love animals, their excitement can sometimes lead to safety accidents.
3. Upon arrival
Before we head your way, we’ll send a notification text to remind you of our scheduled arrival time. Upon arrival, we’ll get straight to it. We usually start with a casual greeting and provide an estimated duration of our visit. Next, we’ll begin laying out tarps and safely secure a ladder to your roof. Once on your roof the first thing we do is maneuver up to the ridge to install a roof anchor. This anchor is used to secure our safety harness, a roofers’ primary PPE (personal protective equipment) for fall protection.
4. Roof cleaning time
Once our fall protection is secure, we’re all set to begin the roof cleaning! We start at the top of your roof and work our way down, carefully scrubbing away all visible signs of moss. Typically, moss is found on exposed edges of each shingle with specific areas having more prevalent growth. Usually in well shaded areas or under trees where they can maintain moisture or have water and food to flourish. Although we carefully work down and around the entirety of your roof, these “troubled areas” is where we like to focus. Once we complete an area, we’ll use a leaf blower or broom to knock the debris off and into tarps. After a section is complete, we’ll move the tarps and start another section of the roof. Lastly, we’ll clean out the gutters and do a final walk through to make sure we don’t miss any spots.
5. Moss Treatment
Rest assured, we treat using environmentally safe chemicals and hold a pesticide applicator license with the State of Oregon. Our treatment gently raises the PH level of the roof making the roof uninhabitable for moss. During heavy rainfall months we generally like to treat the moss first, 3-7 days prior to cleaning. This treatment kills the moss which allows us to easily knock it loose while cleaning. During summer months, the heat and lack of moisture kills the moss without the need of chemical treatment. However, there isn’t one method that works for each roof. We’re happy to discuss your unique needs and tailor our services to you.
6. Cleanup
Once done, we’ll gather the tarps and clean any remaining debris. We do our best to leave the exterior of your home in equal or better condition than when we arrived. Additionally, we take pictures of your newly cleaned roof so we can provide you with before and after pictures. We’ll pack our equipment and notify you of completion. If you’re satisfied with our work, please share your experience with friends and family!
