Our roof-cleaning process: what to expect
Short answer: we first confirm that cleaning makes sense for the roof, then complete the work defined in your estimate, clean up the property, and review what we found. The exact scope depends on the roof’s condition, access, moss and debris, gutters, and any treatment included in the proposal.
This guide explains the normal sequence. Your written estimate controls what is included for your home.
Before the service date
We start by reviewing the roof concern, visible conditions, access, height and pitch, gutter guards, solar panels, landscaping, and any known leaks or damage. Photos taken safely from the ground can help us understand the starting point.
- Move vehicles and fragile items away from the immediate work area when requested.
- Let us know about locked gates, pets, low-voltage lighting, ponds, delicate plants, or difficult access.
- Tell us about active leaks or damaged roofing before cleaning begins.
- Keep people and pets clear of the work zone while the crew is on site.
If the roof appears too worn, fragile, or damaged for the proposed cleaning, we’ll explain the concern and discuss whether a roof assessment or repair review should come first.
The roof-cleaning process
From the first condition check to the final cleanup, here is the normal sequence for the agreed work.
1. Arrival and condition check
The crew reviews the agreed scope, roof access, surrounding property, and visible conditions before starting. If something materially changes the planned work, we discuss it before expanding the scope.
2. Property protection and safe access
We stage equipment and protect the work area as appropriate for the property. Roof access, fall protection, and any permanent-anchor work are handled according to the proposal and site conditions.
3. Debris and moss removal
The crew addresses the buildup included in the estimate. That may involve clearing loose roof debris and carefully removing moss from serviceable roofing. We do not pressure wash asphalt shingles; the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association cautions that pressure washing can damage the roof surface.
4. Gutters, downspouts, and treatment when included
Gutter cleaning, downspout clearing, gutter-guard handling, and moss treatment are included only when they appear in the written scope. We’ll explain what was selected and identify any access or drainage concern that deserves separate attention.
5. Cleanup, photos, and review
After the agreed work is complete, we collect debris, clean the work area, and review completion. When photos are part of the service, they help document the roof’s condition and the work performed. Cleaning can expose concerns that buildup previously hid; it does not repair worn or damaged roofing.
What the estimate should make clear
- Which roof areas are included.
- Whether debris removal, moss removal, gutter cleaning, downspout clearing, or treatment is included.
- How gutter guards, solar panels, steep areas, or limited access are handled.
- Whether permanent anchors or separate repairs are included.
- Price, exclusions, and any work that requires additional approval.
