This Malarkey Vista AR roof replacement in West Salem gave a beautifully unique home a fresh roofing system featuring Heather-colored architectural shingles. Although Heather is not a color we see selected as often as Midnight Black or Storm Grey, it turned out to be an excellent choice for this particular home.
The natural variation in the Heather shingles complemented the home’s siding beautifully, adding definition to the roof without overpowering the character of the house. It is a great example of why the most popular roofing color is not always the best color for every home.
Before the West Salem Roof Replacement
The existing roof was ready to be replaced, but the overall project appeared fairly straightforward during the initial planning process.
This West Salem home has a unique design, including a covered walkway that contributes to the home’s character and roofline. Before beginning the project, our crew prepared the property, established the required safety protections, and carefully planned the removal and replacement process around the home’s different roof sections.

In Progress: Tear-Off and Decking Repairs
After removing the existing roofing materials, we were able to inspect the roof decking underneath. Most of the project progressed as expected, but the covered walkway required substantially more decking replacement than initially anticipated.
Damaged or deteriorated decking cannot provide a reliable foundation for a new roofing system. Instead of covering the affected areas, our crew removed the compromised material and installed new decking where needed along the walkway cover.
Completing these repairs gave the new underlayment and shingles a solid, dependable surface and addressed the underlying problem before the new roof was installed.
Once the decking repairs were complete, we continued preparing the roof and installing the new Malarkey Vista AR roofing system.

Heather may not receive as much attention as darker colors such as Midnight Black or Storm Grey, but this project shows how beautiful it can look on the right home.
The color works especially well with this home’s siding and distinctive exterior design. It provides enough contrast to define the roof while maintaining a warm, cohesive appearance across the entire property. The completed walkway cover also blends naturally into the rest of the new roofing system after the damaged decking was replaced.
Overall, this was a fairly straightforward roof replacement aside from the additional decking work. The finished roof preserves the home’s unique character while giving it a clean, refreshed appearance and a strong new roofing system.
