REAL PROJECT • WEST SALEM, OREGON
Heather shingles, a covered walkway, and a closer look beneath the old roof.
This West Salem roof replacement paired Malarkey Vista AR shingles in Heather with repairs to the covered walkway’s roof decking. Completed in June 2026, the project shows both the finished appearance and an important part of the work beneath it.
The completed Vista AR roof in Heather
The Heather color complements the home’s siding and distinctive rooflines, including its covered walkway. These original photos show the finished result from several angles.

Before the West Salem roof replacement
The home’s covered walkway was part of the roof replacement scope. The before photos document the original roof and the different roof sections before removal.
What changed after tear-off?
Once the old roofing was removed, the crew found that the walkway cover needed more decking replacement than initially anticipated. The affected material was removed and new decking was installed before the new roofing went on.
Roof decking is the surface beneath the underlayment and shingles. In this project, the walkway repairs were an important part of preparing that surface.
The project record lists approximately 3,000 square feet of roof area and two days of work. Those figures describe this job, not a standard schedule for every roof.
A useful question before signing a roof proposal
“How will you handle additional work if something is found after the old roofing comes off?”
This walkway is a real example of why that conversation matters. Ask how findings will be documented, how any additional price will be explained, and how you will approve a scope change.
Understand the starting scope
Identify the roof sections and detached or covered areas included in the proposal. Ask what is known before work begins and what may need a closer look during removal.
Understand the next decision
Ask who will contact you, what photos or explanation you will receive, and how the proposed solution affects the budget or schedule.

Choosing a color that fits your home
Heather gave this home a different look from the Storm Grey and darker shingle colors seen in other projects. Compare real project photos with physical samples beside your siding and trim before choosing.
